Computer Aided Monitoring System for Particulate Matter
Introduction
Particulate matter (PM) suspended in the environment has significant consequence in our everyday life.
Particles can be carried over long distances by wind and affect large areas. Many scientific studies
have linked breathing PM to series of health problems, such as aggravated asthma, chronic bronchitis,
and decreased lung function. Particles also affect the ecosystem by making lakes and streams acidic,
depleting the nutrients in soil, and damaging forests and farm crops.
DUMAS-SQL integrates PM analytical information management with data-acquisition of the measurement
process, including environmental control & monitoring of the analytical isolator and weighing automation
of the filter-collector. The data are stored in MS SQL database and evaluated using EQUAL intelligent
query and modeling system. A library of SQC and SPC models are included to facilitate the interpretation
of the results and appropriate decision making.
The product is suitable for the correlation mapping of temperature and humidity based on GPS measurements
and integration with the DUMAS-SQL database to examine the relationships between particulate matter
concentration and temperature/humidity data.
